SECRET

Sir,

Wait

I have. etc., to refer to your

secret telegram No. 1890 of 13th December

1947 on the subject of the Protected Places

(Safety) Ordinance No.16 of 1946.

I note that it is intended to introduce

a Bill to amend the Ordinance and that

opportunity will be taken to include a clause

providing power to suspend operation of the

Ordinance by Proclamation, but that you do

not consider that conditions permit of the

issue of such Proclamation as soon as the

Bill becomes law. I note further that,

because Regulation 32 of the Defence

Regulations ceases to have effect on 31st Decembe

1947, an amendment to the definition of

р

"Protected Place" in Section 2 of the

existing Ordinance will also be included in

the amending Bill and that the proposed

amendment will readily permit of progressive

reduction in the number of premises to, which

the Ordinance applies. Since the ceasing to

have effect of Regulation 32 of the Defence

Regulation will also necessitate an amendment

of Section 4(1)(b)(i) of the existing

Ordinance
